The BC2D15 controller boards are complete Bipolar dual-axis stepper motor controller systems implemented on a miniature 2.1 inch wide by 2.5 inch tall board (as shown here).  They include the capability of driving one or two bipolar stepper motors at high speeds using current control techniques.  These units are a good choice for those designing products which require higher motor speeds, since they can easily "over-voltage" the motor (to attain the higher speed) without overloading it.

These products require that you select a power supply whose voltage and current can handle your stepper motor.  You will first want to review the calculating motor current for current controlled products faq in order to determine the current and voltage requirements for your motor.

The boards can operate bipolar motors from about 0.2 to 1.3 amps/winding when used as a continuous duty device, and it can handle up to 1.5 amps per winding when used in intermittent service (no more than 30 seconds of the motor being on, followed by at least 30 seconds being off).

There are currently 3 firmware options offered with each of these boards:

  • The BC2DPotStepper firmware allows you to control two motors independently of each other, optionally using a potentiometer to control the rate of motor motion.
  • The BC2DPotRouter firmware is similar to the BC2DPotStepper firmware, but adds the capability of 'routing' serial commands to a child board in a 'daisy-chain' arrangement.
  • The BC2DNCStepper firmware  permits our stepper boards to operate two motors in a tightly coupled environment, appropriate for Numerical Control machines (such as X-Y tables).
