BC4E15USB Current Regulating Four Motor Controller
The BC4E15USB controller board is a complete Bipolar four-axis stepper motor controller system with USB communications, implemented on a small 3.70 inch wide by 2.25 inch tall board (as shown here). It includes the capability of driving up to four bipolar stepper motors at high speeds using current control techniques. This unit is a good choice for those designing products which require higher motor speeds, since it can easily "over-voltage" the motor (to attain the higher speed) without overloading it.
In July of 2009, the board was updated (to the BC4E15 revision 05) to add ESD protection to all of the TTL I/O lines, as well as adding the optional capability of having the logic portion of the board (not the motors) powered via the USB system.
This product requires that you select a power supply whose voltage and current can handle your stepper motors. You will first want to review the calculating motor current for current controlled products faq in order to determine the current and voltage requirements for your motor.
The board can operate bipolar motors from about 0.2 to 1.3 amps/winding when used as a continuous duty device, and it can handle up to 1.5 amps per winding when used in intermittent service (no more than 30 seconds of the motor being on, followed by at least 30 seconds being off).
This board is normally configured with the BC4E15PotRouter firmware. This firmware combines all of the key capabilities of the BC2D15PotStepper and BC2D15PotRouter firmwares (as implemented on the 2 motor controller, the BC2D15), and adds a few more capabilities as well.
The board can also be configured with our BC4E15NCRouter firmware for the BC4E15 product line. This firmware allows control of 4 stepper motors in a 'linked' fashion, as is appropriate for Numerically Controlled operations. Please click here for more information....
